This course in cardiopulmonary resuscitation is a combination of artificial respiration and artificial circulation. The student will learn to recognize respiratory and cardiac arrest and provide basic life support with use of an AED (automated external defibrillators) until advanced life support is available. American Heart Association Certification will be given on successful course completion. Course is offered on demand.

2. Course Specific Outcomes - Students will be able to achieve the following measurable goals upon completion of

- Perform one and two person CPR on adult, child, and infant successfully;
- Apply and operate an AED to an individual;
- Recognize signs and assist when an adult, child or infant is choking (conscious and unresponsive);
- Acknowledge an emergency is present, intervene, and help; and
- Recognize the signs of a heart attack and stroke.

- CPR for children ( 1 year of age to puberty)-Modifications for children, CPR for low heart rate in pediatric patients.
- Adult and child bag mask technique and rescue breathing – One and two rescuer
- 2-rescuer CPR for adults and children
- Automated External Defibrillator – Principles of early defibrillation, use on a child, 4 steps of use.
- CPR for infants – 1 and 2 rescuer
