4. Course Description:

Students will practice and apply skills attained in math, electronics, welding, fabrication, metallurgy, and blueprint reading classes in order to construct a final project. Through this immersion, work-simulated environment, students will be assigned a project and independently build the project from planning to final assessment.

• Develop an understanding of safety around metal fabrication;
• Identify the correct welding process, based on the material type and how the part will be used;
• Generate layouts using manual layout methods;
• Decipher from simple blueprints how features should be laid out to coincide with fabrications;
• Recognize weld positions and weld joint types in a fabrication;
• Calculate the tonnage requirements for bending materials dependent on material size;
• Compute the flat layout of bent parts;
• Demonstrate an understanding of bend allowance;
• Program simple parts at the CNC plasm machine;
• Produce CNC cut files that efficiently use raw materials with nesting software;
• Demonstrate an understanding of quality control and inspection process; and
• Diagnose weld distortion and correct with proper weld sequencing.
