4. Course Description:
This course is designed to refresh Licensed Practical Nurses who have been inactive or need to re-register their licenses with the Minnesota Board of Nursing. Topics covered in this class are the role of the LPN, the State of Minnesota Nurse Practice Act, legal and ethical issues, modalities in nursing care delivery systems, nursing process, and update in clinical practice with review of body systems and related skills. This course includes two credits of independent study and one credit of clinical practice. Clinical experience will be provided in the acute care setting. This course is repeatable.

b. KWIPES (knock, wash hands, introduce self, provide privacy, explain, provide for safety)
c. lung sounds, heart sounds, bowel sounds, integument, circulation
d. collect subjective data (pain, anxiety, nausea, any questions or concerns)
e. complete review of systems
f. document findings on daily work sheet

2. Medication Administration
a. Obtain MAR and make medication cards
b. Set up medications safely with three checks of each of the “rights”
c. Confirm patient identify via arm band per protocol
d. Administer medications
e. Document medication administration

3.Delegated medical treatment; each student must be evaluated for the ability to:
a. Assist in the administration of intravenous sterile fluid
b. Implement treatment related to body organ systems

4. Interaction with patient: each student must be evaluated for the ability to
a. use verbal and nonverbal communication skills
b. establish a relationship based on the patient’s situation
c. maintain professional boundaries in nurse-patient relationships

5. Nursing observation and assessment of patients; each student must be evaluated for the ability to:
