- Consistent use of KWIPES
a. Knock on door b. Wash hands c. Introduce self d. Provide for privacy e. Explain simple and complex procedures to clients f. Provide for patient safety
- Interaction with patient: each student must be evaluated for the ability to:
a. Use verbal and nonverbal therapeutic communication techniques b. Establish a relationship based on the patient’s situation c. Maintain professional boundaries in nurse-patient relationships
- Nursing observation and assessment of patients; each student must be evaluated for the ability to:
a. Given a nursing care plan, establish a sequence of the student’s own nursing actions b. Given nursing care plans for a least three patient’s, set nursing care priorities for that group
- Delegated medical treatment; each student must be evaluated for the ability to:
a. Assist in the administration of intravenous sterile fluid b. Implement treatment related to body organ systems
- Physical nursing care; each student must be evaluated for the ability to:
