4. Course Description:
This course teaches the theory of operation of automatic transmissions and transaxles and the related components. The fundamentals of service of the components of the transmissions will be introduced and practiced in this course. This course provides a minimum of 125 clock hours of the 120 required NATEF clock hours.

2. Course Specific Outcomes - Students will be able to achieve the following measurable goals upon completion of
the course:
- Identify and interpret transmission concern; assure proper engine operation; determine necessary action;
- Perform pressure tests; determine necessary action;
- Diagnose electronic, mechanical, hydraulic, vacuum control system concerns; determine necessary action;
- Disassemble, clean, and inspect transmission/transaxle;
- Air test operation of clutch and servo assemblies;
- Inspect and measure planetary gear assembly (includes sun, ring gear, thrust washers, planetary gears, and carrier assembly); replace as needed;
- Diagnose electronic transmission/transaxle control systems using appropriate test equipment and service information;
- Service transmission; perform visual inspection; replace fluid and filters;
- Inspect bushings and determine necessary action;
- Measure transmission/transaxle end play and determine necessary action;
- Inspect, measure, and reseal oil pump assembly and components; and
- Measure clutch pack clearance; determine necessary action.
