4. Course Description:

This course covers the theory and operation of all electrical and electronic systems on the automobile. It will cover basic electronics, starting and charging, body electronics, and computer operation. This course provides a minimum of 125 clock hours of the 230 required NATEF clock hours.

• Measure and diagnose the cause(s) of abnormal key-off battery drain; determine necessary action;
• Perform starter circuit voltage drop tests; determine necessary action;
• Inspect and clean battery cables, connectors, clamps, and hold-downs; repair or replace as needed;
• Diagnose electrical/electronic integrity of series, parallel and series-parallel circuits using principles of electricity (Ohms Law);
• Measure and diagnose the cause(s) of excessive parasitic draw; determine necessary action;
• Inspect and test switches, connectors, relays, solenoids, solid state devices, and wires of electrical/electronic circuits; determine necessary action;
• Perform battery capacity test;
• Perform solder repair of electrical wire;
• Remove and install starter in a vehicle.
