4. Course Description:

This performing ensemble encompasses age levels from high school to adult and musicianship levels from intermediate to expert in a Jazz Big Band setting. The ensemble prepares and performs traditional and contemporary Jazz literature in public performance with one concert per semester and other public performances as opportunities present. This course is repeatable. MnTC Goal 6

1. Warm up at each rehearsal and performance using a web-based jazz digital method encompassing the four primary styles:
• Swing/Blues
• Funk/Rock and Roll
• Ballade
• Latin
2. Individual tuning and technique 
• Group tuning
• Major, Minor, Mixolydian, and Dorian scales
3. Rehearsal
• Discussion of historical music period
• Discussion of music style
• Rehearsal of compositions appropriate to the skill level of the performers
