4. Course Description:

This course will expand on skills obtained in WELD 1115 including safety, electrode selection and operating parameters, weld characteristic of stainless steels and nonferrous metals. Students will refine and further advance skill sets used to produce quality welds. Visual and non-destructive testing practices are used to determine weld acceptability.

• Determine the proper shielding gas based on a material specific properties;
• Identify and implement changes to the proper work angle, proper travel angle, and proper travel speed based on a materials heat dissipating properties;
• Establish the proper weld sequencing to minimize discontinuities;
• Demonstrate an understanding of advanced welding machine parameters;
• Develop an understanding of weld discontinuities;
• Select proper joint preparation required to complete structurally sound welds;
• Complete a variety of skill-welds in order to demonstrate an understanding of welding variables associated with base material types;
• Execute a variety of destructive weld tests in order to demonstrate an understanding of advanced welding skills, and weld certification practices; and
• Conclude through visual & destructive inspections if a weld is acceptable or rejected.
