4. Course Description:

This is a mixed choral ensemble that rehearses and performs various vocal styles of music such as chamber, madrigal, jazz, American pop, multicultural, musical theater, and more. Achieving vocal excellence and choral blend, productive group rehearsals, and participation in one or more public performances per semester are the objectives of this course. This course is open to all students with some prior vocal experience, and there will be a brief voice audition by the instructor the first week of class.

2. Laboratory/Studio Sessions

A sufficient warm-up routine will be used at the beginning of each rehearsal with individual and group vocal exercises.  Various vocal flexibility and breathing exercises will be used to enhance vocal skills as a part of this routine. The literature chosen will reflect various styles and periods of vocal music history appropriate for the skill level of the choir.  Performance needs may dictate the nature of some of the literature, but a variety of styles and periods will be represented.
